Governor Newsom Appoints a New Judge to the San Joaquin County Superior Court
Stockton, California- The Superior Court of California, County of San Joaquin, is pleased to announce that Governor Gavin Newsom has appointed Michael Tener to serve as a Judge of the San Joaquin County Superior Court. The appointment was announced on April 16, 2026.
Judge appointee Tener brings nearly two decades of legal experience to the bench and a longstanding commitment to serving the San Joaquin County community. He has been a Partner at Leonardini, Despotes, Giannecchini & Nims LLP since 2024. Before that, he served as an Associate at Neumiller & Beardslee from 2007 to 2016 and as a shareholder of the firm from 2016 to 2024.
Michael Tener has practiced civil, probate, and trust litigation at both the trial court and appellate levels. He has developed extensive experience representing plaintiffs and defendants in a wide range of matters, including breach of contract disputes, competing property claims, personal and business torts, real estate and land disputes, and claims involving trusts or probate estates. His clients have included businesses, agricultural interests, private individuals, trustees, creditors, and beneficiaries.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Judge appointee Tener has demonstrated a strong commitment to community service. He has donated his time to provide legal advice through the San Joaquin County Bar Association’s “Lawyers in the Library” program and has helped foster youth interest in the legal profession through the First Impressions mock trial program.
Tener earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Davis School of Law. He fills the judicial vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Barbara A. Kronlund.
